Mo & Rose at Soekershof, the glorious country retreat and guesthouse for sale in Robertson, is a magical oasis on Route 62. With its charming guesthouse, restaurant, garden and lavish family home, it’s a wonderful place that’s far more than the sum of its parts!
The majestic Langeberg mountains are a spectacular frame for the Robertson Wine Valley, a delightful patchwork of fruit farms and vineyards off the beaten track. Despite being a world away from city life, Robertson’s vibrant community is just one reason it’s a high-stakes contender for newcomers looking for a rewarding lifestyle change. Just have ask the owner of Mo & Rose at Soekershof, the glorious country estate and guesthouse for sale in the Cape Winelands.
“We were looking for a farm lifestyle. When we visited a great friend who was the previous owner of Mo & Rose, we fell in love with the area. It’s so beautiful, and we knew we wanted to live here. It’s a really warm community – people love welcoming newcomers from Gauteng or overseas.”
But even more than that, they fell in love with the Klaasvoogds area of Robertson, just outside town on the iconic R60/R62 wine route.
“Klaasvoogds is basically Robertson’s answer to Franschhoek,” says the owner. “It’s a very beautiful horseshoe with an east and west entrance. All the properties to the east are working farms. On the west side, where we are, it’s mostly lifestyle properties: five- to 10-hectare farms with an interesting community and 180-degree views of the spectacular Langeberg mountains.”
“We weren’t particularly focused on finding a working farm or business, and had our eye on three farm properties for sale. But when our friend decided to relocate back to Germany, we couldn’t resist buying Mo & Rose. The fact that it’s such a wonderful business was the cherry on top, even though we were new to hospitality. But if you love people and can work with them, this is a great lifestyle,” explains the owner.
The family lives in the secluded contemporary barn-style home on the lower five hectares of the property “with the best views in the whole of Klaasvoogds”. It’s a tranquil paradise!
“You really do get that Franschhoek feeling! The doors fold open onto the stoep, where the heated pool overlooks the shady garden and spectacular views over green fields and trees to the mountains beyond. The natural veld and hectares of spekboom give you a wonderful sense of place.”
“Our kids love it here. You’ll usually find them on the trampoline or zooming around on the quad bike and motorbike tracks we built them,” says the owner. “This is an incredible family home, just so relaxed.”
But back to business! While the owners weren’t specifically searching for an investment opportunity when they bought Mo & Rose, they’ve revelled in this lifestyle.
Mo & Rose Guesthouse is a nature-infused sanctuary that immerses you in the beauty of the natural world. Started in the 1950, its famous Soekershof garden is a marvel. Expect towering cacti (some over 100 years old), aloes, succulents and euphorbias, which attract a wealth of birds.
This is a place that delights, immersing guests in contemporary farmhouse luxury, culinary feasts and natural splendour. The six gorgeous en-suite bedrooms in the guesthouse have private verandahs with gorgeous perspectives of the lush gardens, pool or Langeberg mountains. The restored two-bedroom cottage has a wonderful heritage – built in 1798, it’s one of the oldest buildings in the whole of Robertson.
Mo & Rose at Soekershof Restaurant is extremely popular with Robertson locals and visitors alike. It’s in a restored historical building, originally the farm’s storeroom. Surrounded by Soekershof Botanical Gardens, the restaurant’s passionate chefs celebrate local, seasonal ingredients in fresh and innovative combinations.
The setting is as enchanting as the delectable cuisine. Sit indoors in the elegant and cosy dining area or out on the terrace overlooking the garden.
“Mo & Rose is a place with so much potential to fulfil your personal vision,” says the owner. “As well as the rights for the restaurant and guesthouse, the property has agricultural zoning with excellent water rights. We don’t even use a third of our water allocation, plus we have a dam – so you could develop vineyards or orchards.”
“The family home would also make a gorgeous and secluded pet-friendly serviced villa if you didn’t want to live here full-time. At one stage we were considering adding a glamping pod, but we haven’t got around to that yet.” There’s so much to love and live for here at Mo & Rose that you simply have to explore it for yourself.
