Die Punt beach house for sale in Rooi Els is nothing short of spectacular. Die Punt, your 850-metre-squared beach house on 10 500 square metres, overlooks False Bay. The architects and designers, Elphick Proome Interiors, were commissioned to capitalise on a unique concept, which the original owner shared as a sketch over lunch in a Hermanus restaurant, so the story goes. Although the Atlantic Ocean views were a primary feature, the house was to be a minimalist steel-framed glass box with a hull-shaped hardwood-clad roof to facilitate lookouts over the majestic mountainscapes that encircle it.

Back to the future

Its futuristic blueprint facilitates spacious living and takes the experience of open-plan living to another level. Expect frameless external walls and fold-away glass doors with slatted hardwood shutters that open to the elements.

The wraparound cantilevered wooden decks made of Garapa hardwood hover above the land and offer a smooth step-down system down onto the sand, so you are both in the air and on the ground. A knock-out pool stretches across the deck, while the hot-bath Jacuzzi keeps it company. There are surprises everywhere you look and varied lifestyle choices, too.

Eco-conscious living is the order of the day at Rooi Els. In this unspoiled village, the imprint of a gentle footprint is encouraged. So the construction of this ultra-modern holiday mansion has afforded maximum respect to its dune and fynbos exterior, ensuring minimal impact. Interior walls dividing living and sleeping spaces are ash-clad doors that slide away wholly, exposing a living area you can easily access privately.

Die Punt is a calm retreat. Its purchase can relate to a private family hideaway, or it could serve as a business venture of sorts. It certainly offers a good-looking indoor/outdoor lifestyle, an entertainer’s dream! 

Some newly established features include a sheltered inner courtyard fitted with large Corten panels to deflect the wind. The previous hydraulically managed shuttered doors fix in the open or closed position; 10–15mm safety glass maximises security; and slim-line windows are in place. 

There are three bedrooms on the main living level. The main bedroom suite is secreted away at one end of the house and separated from the rest of the bedrooms by the kitchen and living area. A loft above the third bedroom is perfect for a child or as a snug sneak-away space to soak up astounding views or enjoy a good book. Plus, there’s the wood-panelled study, which could serve as a library or a fourth bedroom. Word has it that the timber panels formed a floor in a 1720s farmhouse in their previous life. A lovely moment of history.Art surrounds you. Expect a dramatic and colourful Vajrakaya mural and, in the garden, sunyata and cheetah statues by Zimbabwean artist Robyn Kutinyu. And, of course, exceptional sunsets!
